I wonder if the save file became corrupted somehow. You can try deleting ProgramData\TheForceEngine\DARKPILO.CFG so it gets regenerated and try again. It should copy the save data from your Dark Forces data if it exists.

I was getting the same error on first run. Fixed it by pointing it to the correct location of the game folder (different drive from default)

I had the same issue. Some Fonts couldnt be loaded. I use TFE 1.0 and DF on Steam. [Error : HUD] Cannot load font 'AmoNum.fnt' [Error : HUD] Cannot load font 'SuperWep.fnt' [Error : HUD] Cannot load font 'ArmNum.fnt' [Error : HUD] Cannot load font 'HelNum.fnt' I could fix the issue like this: - open steam - go to library and right click dark forces - click on 'properties' - go to 'local files' - click 'Verify integrity of game files...' - Start game in Steam and quit it Afterwards it worked fine Greez!

Hi everyone, I'm using this old threat because I've the same error message. The crash always happens when I try to change the midi device or when I press ESC ingame. I don't have any music or sound during gameplay that's because I can't change the audio device. When I try to change it to the correct one in the settings menu it just reverse back. In the log files are some errors regarding my audio API (?). But in windows or any other games I don't have any problems with music or sound effects. So I'm at loss what's going on and how I can fix the problem. I've attached the error log, maybe someone of you knows a solution.

Hi Disable : Oculus Virtual Audio Device , 2- Rift S , in the Device Manager !
The Force Engine works 100% with the Soundblaster Omni 5.1 !
Which Windows ?
What can cause some problems too , when you connect the SB Omni 5.1 on USB 3.0/x , that cause some high Deleys for me , make Sure Connect it on USB 2.0 !
But make sure Latest Driver and Firmware are up to Date , or re/install DirectX9c that will may fix the Attempt with DirectSound !
I have been tested the latest Force Engine under Win11 with the SB Omni 5.1 , no problems !

hello! firstly, the work you've done is incredible, replaying this childhood game (the 1st mission at least) in glorious 1440p widescreen with mouselook is amazing! I'm having a problem with crashes and looking at the log file it seems to be caused by my audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2i2) on v1.09.200. Crash error is the usual SIGSEGV error that others have seen in this thread. Behaviour I am seeing: - no audio in opening cutscenes - no audio in game, however 1st mission loads and plays fine. - engine crashes when pressing escape key to open game menu at end of 1st mission - engine crashes when attempting to change audio output or midi output in settings Log file attached and indicates the following error for WASAPI, Windows ASIO, and Windows Directsound: - [Warning : Audio] Cannot query audio output devices. Error: 'RtApiWasapi::getDeviceInfo: Unable to retrieve device mix format.', type: 'DRIVER_ERROR' Other notes: - no other audio issues with the system so not sure if it's an audio API or driver compatibility issue. - interface driver and firmware and control software are up to date - it definitely seems like a specific issue to the audio interface as the sound works correctly and I don't experience any crashes when using headphones connected directly to the onboard audio so understand if it isn't a high priority, but thought I'd mention it so you're aware. Thanks!
