Hi all. If anyone remembers, back in 1995 a demo version of the game was released, which took 4 floppy disks. It can be downloaded from the Internet Archive site: archive.org/details/StarWarsDarkForces
The levels in the demo version are different from the levels in the final game. I'm trying to run the demo version on the ForceEngine v1.02, but demo doesn't play. The engine reports: game source data cannot be found. I kindly ask the creators to make changes in the source code of the engine so that the demo version is also playable.
I did the same thing yesterday. Packaging the Demo-Files in a Demo.zip. Yes it works loading as a mod. But the enemy and weapon placements are not right. In the demo there are more enemies and weapons from the later full-version-levels to show more content in the demo. Some sprites are not loading as well, the ammo-clip for example. They are different in the demo. The secrets are also not right. In the demo, some secrets are not there or behind breakable walls.
As a mod, the only thing taken from the demo-files are some textures for switches. The rest is like the full version.
interesting Switches in the/this Demo Link from md3d
= LucasArts Super Sampler on the LucasArts Archives Vol. 1 (Version 1: First Level Only) = Dark Forces Super Sampler on the LucasArts Archives Vol. 2 (Version 2: First 3 Levels Only) = LucasArts Super Sampler from Wal-Mart (Version 2: First 3 Levels Only)
The secret in the wall outside the main building is not present in the demo. The secret to the lowerable wall on the second floor ist covered by a breakable wall in the demo. The ammo-clips are different in the demo. There should be Trandoshans and Gamorreans in the secret-building with the extra-life.
Here is a link to a video with the different demo-levels.
