I'm asking a few people to test out the Release build ahead of the release. Basically, I temporarily broke the floating-point sub-renderer while figuring out how the Classic renderer is supposed to properly interface with the Dark Forces code - essentially I ripped out my hacky bridge which needs to get replaced. This won't take long, most of the code will work as-is, but will probably take a few days to wrap up. But I think it would be nice to get some testing while that work finishes up.
Anyway, I think it would be handy to have a few people play the 320x200-only build - when it's ready - to catch obvious issues before the full release. The idea is to play through part of the game and possibly some mods and let me know what bugs you find. Obviously, if it is also a bug in DOS, then it doesn't count (unless it is catastrophic, like memory corruption or a crash). This won't happen until after the AI integration is done, so not quite yet but it looks like it will be this month.
Before volunteering, there are some things to keep in mind/requirements:
1. You have to play in 320x200 mode (but you can use mouselook or a controller). If you want higher resolutions, then it is best to wait until the official release - the extra wait will most likely be less than a week.
2. You have to play through at least a few levels of the base game and/or one or more mods.
3. You have to make an account on the forums and be willing to post bug threads.
4. You have to be running Windows and have an OpenGL 3.3+ GPU (I still haven't removed these requirements, I plan to before version 1.0, but for now it stays). If the downloadable test build works for you, then this build should also work.
5. This is obvious - but you have to own a copy of Dark Forces and have the data available.
If you wish to volunteer, please post in this thread.
