If you start any mission, then press ESC to pause the game, then press Alt+F1 to open menu and go back to the main menu. And then start a new mission, there's quite high chance the game will crash
This crash seems to be very similar with this crash the-force-engine.freeforums.net/thread/157/disable-sounds-menus-feature-crashes, but it's not that consistent.
If you skip "ESC to pause the game" step, the crash does not happen.
