This forum won't accept a long enough post to post the whole file? Only half got posted and it won't let me post the other half for some reason. Regardless,

He means the length of the post itself. He tried to copy the whole text of the file directly in the post.
@s'toper Tycho Do what tp555 said. Add the file as a attachement in the post. The size should not be a problem. The the_force_engine_log.txt is only a few KB in size. If it is to big, send it via E-Mail.

For people having audio problems using TFE - the issue is that there are multiple possible APIs that can be used, and dedicated sound cards don't support them all well. TFE uses the Windows suggested default (WASAPI), but that doesn't always work. So the next release will not only do a much better job reporting errors, to help debugging audio issues, but will also attempt to use different audio APIs when failures happen (including ASIO and Direct Sound) - which should greatly increase support. In addition, once the system is properly initialized, you will be able to select your output device - in case the default isn't desired for some reason. So hopefully this will resolve the audio issues that people are having. 🙂

For the sake of completeness.
Here is the log from S'toper Tycho.
I'm a fan of DF and played the heck out of it as a kid on PSX.
Now seeing that this new version is playable with a controller and high resolution, I'm ready to play it on my couch.
I have the Steam version. Here is where it's installed:
C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Forces\Game\
That's also the directory where I dumped the "TheForceEngine-v1.01.001.ZIP" file contents to
I ran the game once from Steam first. Ran just fine.
Then ran "TheForceEngine.EXE" from the directory and didn't change any settings.
I ran the game. On the LucasArts splash screen, there was no sound that accompanies the logo ... only music. Then I launched into the game and only the music works. No sound. Game seems to play normally otherwise.
Any ideas?
I use a RTX 3080 12GB and use the GPU's onboard sound processor for everything. Works fine in every game I've played on this PC.

@s'toper Tycho But it does initallize the Nvidia GPU Sound , but may can't it handle the lower Sound Quality or your Ampfiler can't Decode this to HDMI ! All Dark Forces Sounds Files are in .Voc (Creative Voice File) , and have follow Values.
I had around 2001-2002 a Kenwood KRF-5050D , which had a Special DVD 6ch Input , so i could Connect this to the Inputs from a SB-Live also Green/Black/Yellow , without it did Switch to Digital for use EAX etc. ! Real Dolby Digital/DTS i think was never Designed for 11khz Mono.
To Clarification
First Pic.
6ch Analog Input which i had use for the PC Sound (EAX) (5.1) I know it confused , the Display show just Stereo + Sub , but the Soundcard did mix it all , also was Center and Rear Speakers also avaible !
Second Pic. Full Dolby Digital , and i think 11khz Mono can't may Play (This Digital Sound only starts from 48khz-96khz for 5.1, at 7.1 to 192khz, Mono is only used for the Center Speaker?
Which Signal shows your Ampfiler ?
But that you can Test Easy , Start a Video Recording and check if the Sounds is there Aviable ! So you can Check if your Ampfiler or the Nvidia GPU Sound is the problem !
What you may need , or for all Users with Digital Ampfiler , is a Highres Sound Pack or a Output from 48khz for digital, and Analogue up to 44khz , Standart Sound Output seems on 11khz Mono like the Dos Version , i heard there no Compare to TFE !

The log definitely shows the Q90A (NVIDIA High Definition Audio) being initialized as the output device, so my guess is that TFE thinks it is the system default but is not the desired output (which is different than the driver issues). So my guess is that they will need to select their desired output device in the next version when there is a UI available for that.

Hi tp555. I understand what you're saying but that's not the issue. I play more than a handful of 90s games (Duke Nukem 3D, Tomb Raider, Rise of the Triad ... and Dark Forces (Dos version) all had low quality sound and my amp plays the sound and music flawlessly on this PC. TFE version of Dark Forces is the 1st game I've installed that has this issue. I'm excited to try the upcoming version of TFE and hopeful it'll fix the issue.

@s'toper Tycho Yes ok , but Dosbox have a Default 44100hz Output. Do you have then the same problems with DarkXL , which used a higher Sounds Output ? archive.org/download/XLEngineRelease02Check that also !
But there comming alot of Changes with the Sound in upcomming Versions , i hope also OpenAL Soft !

@s'toper Tycho Or the other way is to set the DOSBox Config to 11kHz Output to see if you have the same problems then in the DOS Version.
But my thought is, shouldn't be these Amp's backward compatible? Regardless the samplerate? Digital input is always digital input. When the hardware can handle samplebits 44100 times per second, then it should do 11025 samples per second. I could be wrong. But that's my experience from my music production, playing around with different quality settings and using low quality samples from movies in my music.
