A while back I played through Dark Forces using a port of DOSBox with save states, an external program to put a crosshair on the screen and a program called GlovePIE to translate forward/back mouse movement into the keys for looking up and down in the game. The result was almost like playing a (slightly) more modern port of the game.
However, there was one aspect of it that constantly infuriated me throughout the entire game: The damn auto-aim!
I suppose back in the DOS days when people were playing entirely with the keyboard, it might have made sense, but with mouse aiming, it's a royal f***ing pain in the ass and I wanted so much to turn it off. In fact, I feel that way about all DOS FPS games with auto-aim, such as Blood, Shadow Warrior, Redneck Rampage, etc.
Why?
There's a whole squad of stormtroopers standing next to some exploding cannisters and all it would take are a couple blaster shots to set off the cannisters and kill the entire group in one blow. But the game absolutely will NOT let you shoot the cannisters until every last enemy on the screen is dead.
You're standing on a walkway and you try to shoot the enemies across from you, but all your shots are going down at a 45 degree angle to hit the guys on the floor who aren't even a threat.
Oh look, there are dark troopers in that alcove across the room and... all my rockets are going down and killing the plain stormtroopers on the level below me! ARGH!!!!!!
Not to mention that the concussion rifle is 100% useless for trying to hit enemies that are on a ledge above you. All your shots harmlessly hit the wall instead of the enemies that you're actually aiming at.
PLEASE include an option to disable the auto-aim and allow the player to aim manually!
Note: I've never played Outlaws, but if that includes an auto-aim option, consider this a request to be able to disable it in that game as well.
